Mecham was impeached inbefore the recall could go to voters. He died in The leader of the recall movement, Ed Buck, told The Arizona Republic in that Trudeau had contacted him in August of that year asking for information about Mecham. Buck said he sent Trudeau the materials he sent to any journalist who asked.

It included a two-hour reel of Mecham clips from newscasts, as well as copies of editorial cartoons from Steve Benson of The Republic and Len Boro, cartoonist for the evening newspaper, The Phoenix Gazette. Trudeau created six strips about Mecham. What a cute little pickaninny.

Cleon Skousen, be used in state seminars celebrating the th anniversary of the U. Mecham at first brushed off the strips, but then threatened legal action. He apparently never followed through. The next panel was set in New York. A character from the strip watches television as Trump speaks.

A cursory look at news clippings at the time found no evidence that Trump ever advocated for any sort of walk-in closet program. That strip began a week-long series that mocked Trump, who was even then floating trial balloons for a possible presidential run. One strip featured a cartoon Trump's unveiling renderings of an improved multistory White House, one that would make Americans proud.
